CBCT Level 1 Training
7 hours verifiable CPD using online modules
Aims and Objectives:
This training is intended for dentists, dental nurses with the certificate in dental radiography (CDR), dental hygienists and dental therapists who are already adequately trained to take 2D radiographs. It is limited to CBCT imaging of the dento-alveolar region. It covers the following topics:
- knowledge of the concept of the imaging “chain” from initiating the X-ray exposure to display of the image
- knowledge of how X-rays interact with matter
- knowledge of biological effects of radiation
- knowledge of background radiation and its origin
- knowledge of the principles of image detectors and their influence on image quality
- knowledge of the selection criteria for intraoral and panoramic radiography and its influence on radiation protection
- understanding of the difference between two-dimensional and 3D imaging
- knowledge of the regulations that direct the use of CBCT
- understanding of the importance of gaining new knowledge by following scientific developments and improvements in diagnostic imaging and technology
Please ensure that you complete the five hours of verifiable CPD in radiography and radiation protection which is highly recommended for those who undertake dental radiography under the GDC’s “enhanced CPD” scheme. We offer this through our "IR(ME)R with Jimmy Makdissi" module at a fee of £30.00.
Development Outcomes:
This training meets the development outcomes criteria C and D for the GDC’s Enhanced CPD requirements.
IR(ME)R Training
This module provides the 5-hour training in Radiography and Radiation Protection, a highly recommended verifiable CPD topic by the General Dental Council.
This module satisfies the current requirements of the General Dental council and the Ionisation Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 in relation to Radiography and Radiation Protection.
Learning Content:
• The principles of radiation physics
